Rahel Sorg

Location: EMDE GALLERY - Mainz

Rahel Sorg

The gallery is very pleased to present the first solo exhibition with Rahel Sorg as of March 19th.
The artist already exhibited in the group exhibition "erstbegehung" at the opening of the gallery (06/27 - 08/22/2000) and in the dual exhibition with Danijel Sijakovic (08/29 - 10/10/2020) at Emde Gallery. In her solo exhibition Rahel Sorg will show a selection of new works. The exhibition is curated by Lina Louisa Krämer (Managing Director, Schinkel Pavillon Berlin).

Since 2021 Rahel Sorg has been a master student in the painting class of Prof. Shannon Bool at the Kunsthochschule Mainz (Mainz Academy of Fine Arts). In 2021 she received the project scholarship "Im Fokus Kultur" from the Rhineland-Palatinate Foundation for Culture, in 2020 the Rundgang Award from the Kunsthochschule Mainz and the Deutschlandstipendium from the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz. In 2018 she was awarded the Rundgang Prize of the Friends of the Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz.

How Rahel paints – by Lina Louisa Krämer (Managing Director, Schinkel Pavillon Berlin)

Painting for, against or with the great unknown; the possibilities, but also potential abysses hidden behind every new bend, every mark and maybe thereby also the question of when is it enough, just to not miss the moment when every element is in its place, each can stand for itself,

but only work in interplay, this crucial test is perhaps the best way to describe Rahel Sorg's way of working. Gesture follows form, form slides over surface, canvases are instinctively flipped, where is up, where down, what can be taken away, replaced by something new? Pause, bear, proceed, complete.
