"Having grown up in a Belgian-Greek family, I began at an early age to explore questions about my origins and roots and thus my own identity.
In my artistic practice, I explore these questions by examining memories, belief systems, and cultural influences – especially in the context of religion and superstition - and in doing so, I deal with identity, self-relationship, and social attribution, including in relation to female figures.
I am interested in the tension between adaption and resistance, between the longing for recognition and the desire for self-assertion.
My works engage with these ambivalences and examine how emotional, social, and cultural influences are inscribed in the body, gesture, and material.
The process of creating my works plays a central role in this: repetitive, ritualistic actions manifest themselves in the works and become part of an introspective process of reflection, an act between curse and catharsis, in which the past and self-image are constantly renegotiated. My works move at the intersection between myth and identity, dream and trauma. They can be understood as a search for traces and an open narrative.
It is an attempt to approach the meaning and power of (personal) history, conditioning, and conflict, as well as their influence on our identity."
